INGREDIENTS
Filling: 5 cups apples, peeled and sliced 3/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour 1/4 tsp salt 3/4 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon butter Topping: 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 2 tablespoons softened butter 1 egg, beaten |

DIRECTIONS |

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Filling: Butter a 9-inch square pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, vanilla and water. Spoon into baking pan and dot apple mixture with cut up butter. Topping: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, softened butter and beaten egg until smooth. Drop batter, in nine equal portions, over apples, spacing evenly. (The batter will spread out while it is baking.) Bake 35-40 minutes at 375 degrees, or until apples are tender and bubbly, and crust is a nice golden brown. Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes: Optional: serve with vanilla ice cream.
